CONCH  COLLECTION

Please note that I use extremely high quality papers and paints for my original works; the Italian “Maimeri Blu” watercolours for their intense, vibrant colours and the finest French cotton papers 140lbs per 20 sheets produced by “D’arches” who have been in business since 1492, the year that Columbus discovered The Bahamas and The New World.

The conch has been an abundant food source for the people of the Bahamas for many centuries and to this day is seen as The Bahamas' national dish and seafood delicacy in the form of salads, fritters and chowders to name but a few. The wonderful colouring of their shells have leant themselves to jewellery making and decor by our people for generations and provide a large tourist souvenir revenue year on year. The colours, textures and form of their shells are a source of inspiration to me in this collection.

Sadly, however, due to over-fishing and illegal violation of our waters, the conch population is now being dramatically depleted in our region. Our people need responsible initiatives to help protect and preserve our iconic and beautiful conch.
