the Artist, Malcolm

I operate a tour of my studio and gardens and offer a pick-up service for visitors unfamiliar with the local area. Visitors can enjoy the peace and tranquility of my tropical garden full of orchids, exotic birds and fruit trees whilst viewing my gallery of work.  An opportunity to take home an original, unique piece of Bahamian art !

Although born in England, I came to The Bahamas with my parents as a child and it has now been my home for over 60 years. I have a Bahamian wife, 3 children and 3 grandchildren. My varied career began with a degree in medicine at The University of The West Indies, many years working in media and advertising and in 1996 I chose to pursue my lifelong passion and become a full-time artist.

I am primarily self-taught, but have taken several international courses and workshops over the years experimenting with a variety of different media under the tutorship of Professor Skip Lawrence, Steve Bollinger and Steven Quiller. I also received private lessons at Munroe College, Jamaica.

I am proficient in watercolour, pastel, mixed aqueous media and acrylic. I also create three dimensional realistic works in clay, fibre, glass, wood and stone.

My work has been exhibited in many one-man and group shows throughout The Bahamas and internationally and I have been the originator of several notable annual shows here in Nassau and other family islands such as the Rotary “Art of Thanks” show, now in it’s 8th year, the profits from which help to provide artistic scholarships. My work has also been featured in various national and international publications.

My professional affiliations include being Ambassador for The Commonwealth of The Bahamas for The Portrait Society of America, former President of The Artists’ Guild, former manager of the Museum of Art, Nassau. I am also a long-standing and active Rotarian.

I have 20 works on loan to Government House, Nassau and I regularly have paintings in The National Art Gallery.
